Fewer international breaks
There are only three international breaks this season, down from four. The September and October windows were merged into one 16-day break, from 21 September to 6 October, in which countries could play up to four matches. That left just two breaks between the start of the season and the end of the year, so the league runs uninterrupted from matchweek 6 on 10 October to matchweek 10 in early November.
Christmas and New Year
Boxing Day falls on a Saturday this year, so expect a full programme on 26 December. The league has said that no club will play two rounds within 60 hours over Christmas and New Year.
