Arsenal 2-0 Everton: Konsa and Gabriel take Arsenal level with City as Arteta gives Saka update

Arsenal did exactly what they needed on a wet afternoon at the Emirates. Two goals from centre-backs beat Everton 2-0, and with Manchester City losing at Aston Villa earlier in the day, Mikel Arteta's side are now level on 21 points at the top.

The goals

7' — Ezri Konsa (1-0). Martin Ødegaard's corner was flicked on by Gabriel and Konsa bundled it in from a yard out for his first Arsenal goal. It was Arsenal's first set-piece goal since May, ending a run of 13 games without one.

68' — Gabriel (2-0). Ødegaard found Ben White on the overlap and Gabriel headed in White's cross. It was Gabriel's 200th Premier League appearance, and White's 200th game for the club.

"We are champions, and to be champions you've got to win games consistently," Konsa said.

Everton had their chances — Gabriel cleared off the line in the first half and David Raya saved from Thierno Barry after a loose back-pass from White — but Arsenal controlled the game. Arsenal have now won their last seven league games at the Emirates.

Saka: "It will be weeks"

Arteta confirmed Bukayo Saka has a quad injury from Wednesday's game in Munich. "I think it will be weeks, the extent of the injury," he said, adding that the scans will be repeated in about a week to ten days. Reports suggest Saka could be out for up to eight weeks, which would cover around 12 games before Christmas. Our guide to how long Saka will be out lists the games he could miss.

Riccardo Calafiori had what Arteta called "something very small" late in the game and could miss Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie at Fleetwood Town. Piero Hincapié was an unused substitute on his return from injury, and 16-year-old Max Dowman came on for the last ten minutes.

Arteta on the schedule

Arteta made five changes and was unhappy with the fixture list: "We were given a terrible schedule. Sunday afternoon, then Wednesday night in Munich, coming here really late on Thursday."
