Chelsea 0-2 Tottenham: Palmer sent off, Penders own goal and a stunning Tel solo end Spurs' Stamford Bridge curse
Tottenham won a Premier League game at Stamford Bridge for only the second time, and kept a clean sheet there for the first time since 1986. Cole Palmer was sent off for a second yellow card and Mike Penders punched a corner into his own net.

For years Stamford Bridge has been the ground Tottenham dreaded. On Saturday night Roberto De Zerbi's side won there 2-0, ending one of the most one-sided records in the Premier League.
How it happened
| Minute | Event |
|---|---|
| 51' | James Maddison goes off injured for Spurs |
| 77' | Mike Penders own goal — under pressure from Jan Paul van Hecke, the Chelsea goalkeeper punches Mateus Fernandes' corner into his own net |
| 80' | Cole Palmer sent off — second yellow card for standing on Conor Gallagher |
| 87' | Mathys Tel runs from his own half and drills a low shot into the bottom corner |
It was a bad-tempered game from the start. Palmer barged into Fernandes, who was on his knees, during an early scuffle that also saw coaching staff booked; he was lucky to escape with a yellow card then. Gary Neville said Palmer had "lost his head" by the time the second booking came.
The records
- Spurs had won only one of their previous 34 Premier League visits to Chelsea.
- It was their first clean sheet in any competition at Stamford Bridge since December 1986.
- Penders became only the second Chelsea goalkeeper to score a Premier League own goal, after Petr Čech in 2009.
- Chelsea have conceded eight goals from set pieces this season — double any other team.
- Chelsea managed only seven attempts, their fewest in a league game this season.
What they said
Roberto De Zerbi: "They deserve this win." He said his team had "prepared very well for the game" and were "improving a lot", adding that a side that had looked "fragile" now looks like "a complete team".
Mathys Tel: "It's very special, because we came here a lot of times and didn't get a win."
Xabi Alonso refused to blame his young goalkeeper and said Chelsea had not been at their best collectively or individually, adding that the team needed to show more maturity after conceding. He said Palmer must learn from his red card.
Team news issues
Chelsea were already without goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez and striker João Pedro, and Palmer now faces a suspension. Spurs will be waiting for news on Maddison.
