Vincent Kompany health update: Bayern coach recovering from viral infection as Der Klassiker approaches
Max Eberl says Vincent Kompany is "on the road to recovery" after collapsing at training, but there is still no final diagnosis and no return date. Bayern host Borussia Dortmund on Saturday with the two clubs level on points at the top.

Bayern Munich won at Freiburg on Sunday without their head coach. The question now is whether Vincent Kompany will be back for Saturday's top-of-the-table Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund.
What we know
- Kompany collapsed at training on Friday and was taken to hospital, where he is being treated for a viral infection.
- His symptoms first appeared around the 6-1 win over RB Leipzig. He missed training on the Monday before the Champions League game against Arsenal, but was on the bench for the 2-2 draw on Wednesday.
- Sporting director Max Eberl says Kompany is "on the road to recovery. His condition is stable and he no longer has headaches."
- There is no final diagnosis yet. Further tests "are looking good", Eberl said, but more results are needed. Kompany is expected to stay in hospital for a few more days.
Will he coach against Dortmund?
Bayern are not giving a date. "He will not return until he is medically fit," Eberl said. The club has asked for privacy for Kompany and his family.
Assistant Aaron Danks led the team at Freiburg, where Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry (his 100th Bundesliga goal) and Michael Olise scored in a 3-1 win. "They're a top team and in good form right now," Danks said of Freiburg. Read our Freiburg 1-3 Bayern report.
