Premier League table 2026-27 after matchweek 7: City's record start, Brighton's goals and a crowded bottom six
Manchester City have won seven from seven, Arsenal are three points behind and Brighton have scored 23 goals. Spurs finally won, and only three points separate 13th from 20th. The full table and what it tells us.

Seven games into the 2026-27 Premier League, the top of the table looks familiar and the bottom looks chaotic. Manchester City have won every game, Arsenal have dropped points only once, and Brighton are scoring at a rate nobody else can match. Below them, only three points separate 13th place from 20th.

The title race: City perfect, Arsenal efficient
Manchester City beat Ipswich 3-2 on Saturday to make Enzo Maresca the first manager in Premier League history to win his first seven matches. Erling Haaland scored twice — he now has eight league goals — and reached 100 non-penalty Premier League goals in 139 appearances, faster than anyone before him.
But City are not dominating games the way their record suggests. Ipswich scored twice at the Etihad, and City have conceded seven goals, more than Arsenal (five) or Brighton (five). Our analysis of Maresca's perfect start looks at where the cracks are.
Arsenal are the opposite: not spectacular, but hard to beat. Their 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest came from their only shot on target all afternoon, a deflected Noni Madueke strike ten minutes from time. Arsenal have scored only 11 goals — fewer than Brighton, City, Chelsea or Brentford — but share the best defensive record in the league with Brighton. Champions last season, they are three points behind City and on course for a familiar two-horse race.
The surprise: Brighton's attack
Fabian Hürzeler's Brighton are the story of the season so far. Their 5-0 win over Crystal Palace took them to 23 goals in seven games, four more than City and the most in the division. It included one of the goals of the season: Gómez's lob from 51.3 metres, the longest-range Premier League goal since Wayne Rooney's in 2017. Brighton also have the best goal difference in the league (+18).
The Champions League places
Below the top three, Chelsea (13 points) and Liverpool (12) have found form. Chelsea won 2-0 at Everton thanks to Pedro Neto's double, their first league clean sheet since January; Liverpool came from behind to win 2-1 at Brentford, who finished with nine men. Andoni Iraola's side have now won three, drawn three and lost one, and Victor Muñoz and Alexander Isak's goals at Brentford suggest the attack is starting to click.
If England finishes in UEFA's top two countries for coefficient, fifth place will also earn a Champions League place — which makes the race behind City and Arsenal even more valuable.
The middle: two unbeaten runs end
Two of the league's three unbeaten records went this weekend, leaving Manchester City as the only side yet to lose: Everton were beaten at home by Chelsea and Brentford by Liverpool. Leeds, held 1-1 by Manchester United, are level with both on 10 points. Hull City and Ipswich, two of the promoted clubs, both sit in the top half on nine points.
The bottom: eight clubs within three points
The bottom of the table has never been tighter at this stage. From Manchester United in 13th (7 points) to Sunderland in 20th (4 points), eight clubs are separated by three points.
- Tottenham finally won, beating Coventry 3-1 on Monday night with goals from James Maddison, Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies. Dejan Kulusevski returned after 526 days out. It lifted Spurs from 20th to 16th. Read our analysis of what had gone wrong.
- Bournemouth and Fulham also won their first games of the season, against Sunderland and Hull.
- Fulham, Nottingham Forest (beaten by Arsenal) and Sunderland occupy the relegation places.
- Manchester United drew 1-1 at Leeds and are 13th with one win from seven.
What the numbers say
- Goals: Brighton (23) and City (19) are far ahead; Forest (5), then Spurs, Coventry and Sunderland (6 each), have scored the fewest.
- Defence: Arsenal and Brighton have conceded only five each. Crystal Palace (17) have the worst defence after the 5-0 defeat at the Amex.
