The big ties

Liverpool v Chelsea. The tie of the round. Liverpool have won four in a row after beating Brighton 2-0, though Florian Wirtz is a doubt with an ankle problem. Chelsea are already missing João Pedro and goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, Cole Palmer is facing a suspension after his red card, and they lost 2-0 at home to Tottenham on Saturday. Read Liverpool 2-0 Brighton and Chelsea's discipline problem.

Fleetwood v Arsenal. Arsenal go to a lower-league side days before their trip to Anfield. Mikel Arteta is likely to rotate heavily; Riccardo Calafiori could miss out after a "very small" issue against Everton, and 16-year-old Max Dowman, who scored twice against Ipswich in the third round, should get minutes. Bukayo Saka is out for weeks — see Arsenal 2-0 Everton.

Man City v Brighton. A rematch of sorts for Brighton, who lost 3-0 at home to City earlier in the season. City are coming off their first league defeat, at Aston Villa, and face Brighton again in the league on Saturday.

Bournemouth v Aston Villa. Two of the in-form sides in England: Bournemouth have won three in a row, including at Old Trafford, and Villa beat Manchester City on Saturday.

The rest

Sunderland, bottom of the Premier League, host Brentford; Fulham host Crystal Palace, whose coach Pierre Sage is under pressure after the 2-0 home defeat by Newcastle; and Everton host Newcastle on Thursday. Bradford and Peterborough meet in the only tie between two EFL clubs, guaranteeing a lower-league side in the quarter-finals.
