Real Madrid: a class of their own
Real Madrid won the first five European Cups, from 1956 to 1960, and have never stopped. Their 15 titles include three in a row from 2016 to 2018 — the first club to retain the trophy in the Champions League era — and wins in 2022 and 2024. They have lost only three finals out of 18.
The nearly men
Some clubs reach finals but rarely win them:
- Juventus have lost seven of their nine finals, more than any other club.
- Benfica have lost five finals in a row since their last win in 1962.
- Atlético Madrid have reached three finals (1974, 2014 and 2016) without winning one.
- Arsenal lost both of their finals, in 2006 and on penalties to PSG in 2026.
PSG's back-to-back
Paris Saint-Germain won their first title in 2025, beating Inter 5-0 in Munich — the biggest winning margin in a final. A year later they beat Arsenal on penalties in Budapest, becoming only the second club to retain the trophy in the Champions League era after Real Madrid.
