The goals
| Minute | Goal |
|---|---|
| 11' | Kylian Mbappé 0-1 (pen) — after Prati fouls him in the box |

Güler pulls the strings
Arda Güler, who did individual work in training during the week, started and was Madrid's most creative player: he hit the post after seven minutes from a Trent Alexander-Arnold pass, crossed for a Bellingham header that was cleared off the line, and then set up the second goal.
The rest of the game
- Around 12 minutes, Thibaut Courtois saved from Iker Luque, Racing's best chance.
- In the second half Mbappé hit the post with a long-range shot, and Agirrezabala saved from Bellingham.
- On 71 minutes the referee gave Racing a penalty for an Aurélien Tchouaméni handball, but VAR overturned it, judging the contact unintentional.
